Marina
Dunes Open Space Preserve, is
located off Dunes Dr. just north of Marina State Beach. Most of these 10 acres
of coastal dunes are being restored as endangered species habitat for the snowy
plover, Smith's blue butterfly, and others, with coastal pedestrian
access to
the beach. Foundations of an old sand processing plant are still visible.
Walking, jogging, dog-walking, exercise, photography, contemplation, fishing,
family activities,
sunbathing, surfing, and hang-gliding. This
site provides a relatively quiet and underutilized access that has not yet been
"found" by the crowds. Stay on designated paths and respect dune
restoration and habitat closure signs. Open dawn to dusk.
384-7695, 659-4488. Parks & Recreation: Marina
State Beach, off Highway 1 at
Reservation Rd. 170 acres. Dolphins, pelicans, whale watching in season (Dec-March).
